About Us
SOUTH TEXAS
*Charley, my brother, introduced me to climbing palm trees with lineman's gear
to trim palm trees. It was a nice introduction to landscape contracting with a
view.
*1982 -- Back on the ground, I graduated from the University of Texas in Austin
with a B.A. in Anthropology and a good grasp of the Spanish language.
*1983 – We (my wife and I) started Tremendous Gardens in Harlingen, Texas, my
hometown. After a year or so, we moved back to Austin and were blessed with two
children, Eric and Nicole. I continued the business and passed the licensing
exam to be a Texas Licensed Irrigator.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
*1989 -- We moved to Sandia Creek near Temecula. Eric was 2.5 years old and
Nicole was 0.5 years old. I took care of a 20-acre avocado grove and estate.
*1990 -- We moved into the big city of Fallbrook, and I passed my C-27, CA
Licensed Landscape Contractors exam (#583778), and started Horizons West
Landscaping.
*For several years, I took evening classes in the Landscape Architecture
program at the University of California Irvine. I was able to improve my skills
in Architectural Drafting l and ll and Presentation Techniques, as well as get
some new perspectives in Art and Design and the History of Landscape
Architecture.
*1998-2004 -- I took a break from landscaping full time and taught elementary
school in Vista. I continued to landscape on my breaks. Eventually, I decided I
needed to choose between teaching and landscaping, and came back to my first
love, landscaping.
*2004 -- Back to landscaping full-time with a renewed energy and direction.
We're now Butler Landscape.
*I'm still learning, growing and refining my design and construction
techniques. I have a small, hardworking, experienced crew who make it all
happen. I'm involved in and love the process. I live in God's country and love
working with my friends. Life is Good. God is Good!
